Can calcium deficiency also lead to hypertension?

Can calcium deficiency also cause hypertension? There are many reasons for hypertension, but in recent years, researchers have found that calcium deficiency can also cause hypertension. According to the American Medical Journal, researchers found that the incidence rate of hypertension was 10~20 times higher in pregnant women who ate less than 0.5 grams of calcium per day than those who ate more than 1 grams of calcium. The general population survey results are that the incidence rate of hypertension is 2~3 times that of calcium 1200 mg daily, with calcium consumption less than 300 mg per day. Epidemiology in China also confirmed that the average daily intake of calcium was significantly negatively correlated with blood pressure, that is to say, people with more daily intake of calcium had lower blood pressure, while those with less daily intake of calcium had the opposite. The average systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure can be decreased by 0.3 kPa (2.5 mmHg) and 0.17 kPa (1.3 mmHg) for every 100 mg increase in daily calcium intake. Therefore, researchers point out that the decrease of calcium absorption is one of the causes of hypertension.

Foreign scholars also observed 580 cases of hypertensive patients and 330 cases of normal people, let them take more than 800 mg of calcium per day. After 8 weeks, it was found that systolic and diastolic blood pressure of hypertensive patients decreased, while normal people remained unchanged. So, why can calcium supplementation reduce blood pressure? At present, it is believed that it may be caused by the following mechanisms:

1. Membrane stabilization of calcium. Calcium binding on the cell membrane can reduce the permeability of the cell membrane, increase the excitation threshold and relax the vascular smooth muscle.

2. Calcium itself can block calcium channels, so that extracellular calcium ions can not enter cells.

3. High calcium can counteract the increase of urinary potassium excretion caused by high sodium, and potassium ion plays an important role in stabilizing cell membrane. Maintaining enough high calcium intake can resist the harmful effects of high sodium.

4. Some scholars believe that 40% of the increase of blood pressure is related to parathyroid gland. Parathyroid gland can produce a kind of heat-resistant polypeptide substance, which is the main cause of hypertension, known as' hypertensive factor '. The production of hypertension inducing factor was stimulated by low calcium diet, but inhibited by high calcium diet.

In recent ten years, studies have proved that calcium deficiency in diet can increase blood pressure. Therefore, early attention to the supply and absorption of calcium in diet is beneficial to the prevention and treatment of hypertension. The foods with more calcium include soybeans and soybean products, milk and dairy products, fish, shrimp, crab, egg, agaric, laver, xuelihong, etc., which should be properly taken in daily life.

After reading the above content, we should have some understanding of the problem of whether calcium deficiency in the body can also cause hypertension. Today we will introduce here. More topics about the treatment and health care of hypertension will be introduced in the following chapters. Welcome to check. I wish you good health!
