What's Shenzhou 12 doing

Shenzhou 12 mainly carries out the daily management of the core module assembly, including on orbit test of Tianhe core module, verification of regenerative life support system, mechanical arm test and operation training, as well as material and waste management; Carry out two outbound activities and extravehicular operations, including on orbit transfer, assembly and testing of extravehicular services, assembly of extravehicular toolbox, lifting of panoramic camera and installation of extended pump unit; Carry out space science and technology experiments. Carry out the assembly and testing of space application mission experimental equipment, carry out practical (Trial) tests in the field of space application and aerospace medicine, as well as relevant popular science education activities according to the procedures; carry out the astronauts' own health management, carry out daily life care and physical exercise as planned, and regularly monitor, maintain and evaluate their own health status.

Shenzhou 12 manned mission has four characteristics, which will lay a solid foundation and accumulate valuable experience for the construction and application development of the follow-up space station.

1. The functional performance of the manned space-to-Earth transportation system will be further verified. The reliability and safety of the improved long march-2f rocket are improved; Shenzhou 12 manned spacecraft has added independent rapid rendezvous and docking, radial rendezvous and docking and 180 day in orbit docking capabilities, improved return technology, further improved landing accuracy, and will enable the manned spacecraft emergency rescue mission mode for the first time.

2. It will comprehensively verify the support technology for astronauts' long-term presence. Through the three-month on orbit work and life of the Shenzhou 12 astronaut crew, the assessment verified various support technologies for astronauts' long-term space flight, such as regenerative life insurance, space station material supply, astronaut health management, etc.

3. The ability of astronauts and mechanical arms to complete out of cabin activities and out of cabin operations will be verified in orbit. With the support of the mechanical arm, the astronauts will carry out long-term extravehicular activities for the first time to carry out extravehicular equipment installation, maintenance and other operations.

4. The search and recovery capability of Dongfeng landing site will be tested for the first time. The landing site was adjusted from Siziwang Banner in Inner Mongolia to Dongfeng landing site, and the normalized emergency standby search and rescue mode of landing site system was opened for the first time.
