The successful recapture of giant panda in the wild

Original title: the first case in the world! Giant panda successfully recaptured in the wild

4hw.com.cn today, after more than five hours of trapping, the China giant panda conservation and Research Center (hereinafter referred to as the panda center) successfully recovered the wild introduced giant panda 'Qiaoqiao' and its cubs in the wild of Tiantai Mountain in Wolong National Nature Reserve, which is also the world's first successful recapture of wild born giant panda. After that, the veterinary team of the Panda Center conducted a physical examination on the mother and baby, and Qiao Qiao and his cubs were in good health.

In March this year, the giant panda 'Qiao Qiao' was sent to Tiantai Mountain to participate in the wild introduction. In early April, Qiao Qiao successfully mated with a wild male giant panda and gave birth to a pair of male twins in the wild of Tiantai Mountain on September 16. The second is raised by Qiao Qiao, while the eldest is transferred to the breeding room of shenshuping base in Panda Center for artificial breeding.

In the field, through field observation, infrared camera monitoring and GPS radio positioning monitoring, the mother animal has a good behavior in bringing her young, and the growth and development of the young are normal. With the growth of the young, the range of activities of the mother is expanding, and the time for leaving the nest to eat bamboo is also increasing. In order to ensure that the two cubs can get breast milk, the monitoring personnel will exchange the two cubs for the first time 7 days after birth, and then rotate once a month, a total of three times. At present, Qiao Qiao takes the eldest to live in the wild.

The baby is now three months old. After several months of preparation, this morning, the scientific research team of the panda center went to Tiantai Mountain in Wolong. After more than five hours' efforts, the staff successfully trapped Qiao Qiao. In order to reduce the stress response of the cubs, the staff dressed in work clothes with the smell of 'Qiao Qiao' and carried them out of the Tiantai Mountain wild training ground, and then the mother and son of 'Qiao Qiao' were quickly transferred to Hetaoping wild training base.

"In order to successfully recapture, we have made a series of preparations and corresponding emergency plans. First, we should strengthen the management of the mother animals, and the monitoring personnel should fully establish the relationship of breeding and trust with the female animals, so as to trap and cage them. Secondly, on the premise of fully evaluating the physical condition of & lsquo; Joe & amp; and the cubs, a detailed recapture plan was formulated. Wu Daifu, director of the walnut Ping wild training base of the panda center, said that since the cubs can walk freely after they are four months old, and the wild environment is complex and changeable in winter under freezing rain and snow, the safety of mother and baby is vulnerable. According to the plan, Qiao Qiao and the cubs will be taken back from the wild together.

At present, 'Qiao Qiao' and the cubs are safely returned to the walnut Ping wild training base of the panda center. After 'Qiao Qiao' adapts to the captive environment, the cubs will be returned to 'Qiao Qiao' for further rearing. Wu Daifu also said that Qiao Qiao is still young, in good physical condition, and has rich experience in bringing cubs. After being evaluated by experts, Qiao Qiao may continue to participate in the wild introduction project of captive giant panda next year.

According to Zhang Hemin, executive deputy director of the China giant panda conservation and Research Center, artificially bred giant pandas will be put into the wild after wild training to mate with wild giant pandas. The cubs born can participate in breeding, which can increase gene exchange and genetic diversity for captive giant panda populations, and realize blood exchange between wild and captive populations. Moreover, the successful introduction of three years in a row has made us more confident, motivated and have data to explore and study a new wild training and reintroduction mode, so that the introduction of giant pandas in the wild can independently give birth, bring cubs and realize self releasing, effectively improve the genetic diversity of wild populations, and realize the rejuvenation of endangered small populations in the wild.

'giant panda & lsquo; Cao Cao & amp; and & lsquo; Qiaoqiao & amp; were successfully introduced into the wild and gave birth. This time, the successful recapture of & lsquo; Qiaoqiao & amp; cubs from the wild proved the professionalism and scientificity of the technical force of the panda center, and demonstrated the scientificity and feasibility of the introduction of giant panda in the wild. Zhang Zhizhong, Secretary of the Party committee of the China giant panda conservation and Research Center, believes that the success of the introduction in the wild can not only realize the blood exchange between captive and wild populations, but also play a positive role in the rejuvenation of the wild giant panda population and the construction of the giant panda National Park, thus promoting the development of giant panda conservation research. At the same time, it also provides new ideas and methods for the release and protection of giant panda and other rare and endangered large mammals.
