Two thirds of English primary school students do not know that tuna is fish

Survey on the lack of common sense among English Primary School Students

According to foreign media reports, many British primary school students lack basic knowledge of common food sources. A third of primary school students in Britain think eggs are from cows and two-thirds don't know tuna is fish, according to a new survey.

The survey was conducted by charity Chef School and kitchen utensils company 'Zanussi' and involved 1000 children aged 6 to 11, according to the report. The results showed that one-third of primary school students thought eggs were from cows; two-thirds did not know tuna was fish; and one in ten had never eaten cherry tomatoes.

Experts say children in the UK do not know enough about the source of food. Spokesman Chris George said: 'we still have an important task to do, which is to ensure that the basic knowledge of food and sustainable diet is taught to children early so that they can develop healthy eating habits. '

According to the report, two years ago, the British Nutrition Foundation conducted a similar survey of 27500 children and found that a third believed that cheese came from plants, while tomatoes grew in the field.
