Introduction to Tianmen Mountain

Tianmen Mountain, located in Zhangjiajie City, Hunan Province, is only 8 kilometers away from the urban area, with an altitude of 1518.6 meters. It is the highest mountain in Zhangjiajie and the cultural holy land of Zhangjiajie. It is honored as the "soul of Zhangjiajie" and the "first holy mountain in Western Hunan". It is a national 5A level tourist area, with many honors such as' the 50 most worthy places for foreigners to visit in China, the most desirable places in China, the eight sceneries of xinxiaoxiang in Hunan Province, the top 100 scenic spots of China's self driving tour, and the top 10 scenic spots most concerned by Chinese Internet users'.

Tianmen cave, Zhangjiajie

In ancient times, Tianmen Mountain was called Songliang mountain (also known as Yunmeng Mountain and fanghu mountain), which was named for its high mountain like Songyue mountain. In the sixth year of Wu Yong'an of the Three Kingdoms (263 A.D.), the Songliang mountain suddenly opened with a cliff and a xuanlang like gate, forming the rare world wonder, Tianmen cave. Emperor Wu thought it was a sign of auspiciousness, so he changed the name of Songliang mountain to Tianmen Mountain and set Tianmen county at the foot of the mountain, which is today's Zhangjiajie City.

The unique karst platform type landform of Tianmen Mountain is rare in the world. It is a platform type isolated mountain surrounded by cliffs, with a height difference of more than 1300 meters within a few kilometers, thus creating a towering isolated peak and a majestic air. The mountain top is relatively flat, covering an area of 2 square kilometers. The forest coverage rate of the mountain top is up to 90%. There are many kinds of strange stones and trees. It has a rare Davidia involucrata community in the world. It is like a beautiful sky garden with wild interest all the year round. In July 1992, Tianmen Mountain was approved as the second National Forest Park in Zhangjiajie by the Ministry of forestry.

There is no need to climb the Tianmen Mountain. The world's longest high mountain passenger ropeway, Tianmen Mountain ropeway, reaches the top of the mountain. Tianmenshan cableway station is located in guanliping, downtown, 4km away from Hehua airport, 1.5km away from railway station and bus station, 8km away from the exit of Changzhang expressway, and directly accessible by multiple buses such as No.4, No.5 and No.10 in downtown.

At present, Tianmen Mountain can't walk or drive up the mountain. You need to take cable car or environmental protection car at the foot of the mountain. After going up, you can walk or take a cableway or sightseeing bus to visit the scenery.
