What are the causes of forest and grassland fires?

--More than 90% were caused by human factors

According to the data released by the office of the National Forest and grassland fire control headquarters in March this year, the spring prevention period has always been a period of high incidence of major forest and grassland fires in China. Since 1987, 71 major forest fires have occurred in China, with 60% concentrated in this period.

In addition, this set of data also shows that the spring prevention period is still the most difficult period for field fire control. Traditional folk fire, sacrificial fire and spring production fire are intertwined. Activities such as mountain outing tourism, picking mountain goods and traveling with donkey friends are frequent. More than 90% of forest and grassland fires are caused by burning paper, smoking, burning straw and setting off fireworks.

In addition to human factors, unfavorable meteorological conditions, phenological conditions and basic conditions are also the causes of forest fires. Recently, the office of the National Forest and grassland fire control headquarters has put forward the corresponding unfavorable conditions.

For example, in terms of meteorological factors, including the possible increase of extreme weather such as local high temperature, drought and dry thunderstorm due to the influence of El Nino phenomenon; in terms of phenological conditions, it includes the significant increase of forest coverage and grassland vegetation coverage in China, the significant increase of fuel load in forest and pastoral areas, and the far overweight critical value of forest and grassland fire in some places.
