Can be scratched by a cat get rabies!

Many animals can spread rabies, but dog bites are common. According to statistics, the proportion of people bitten by various animals is: 80.07% by dogs, 9.25% by cats, 0.64% by wolves, 0.03% by foxes, 0.64% by other farm animals, and some countries have rabies bitten by bats. Dogs are the main source of infection, but cats are also the source of rabies, ranking the second.

The first diagnostic standard of rabies -- epidemiological history: the infection history of dogs, cats, wild carnivores and host animals such as insectivores and bloodsucking bats that bite, scratch, lick mucous membranes or unhealed wounds. Thus, it can be seen that a cat bite (especially a stray cat bite) is as likely to spread rabies as a dog bite.

Therefore, after a cat bite, it should immediately squeeze the wound outward like a dog bite, wash it thoroughly, and then inject rabies vaccine into the hospital.

Does domestic cat need rabies vaccine

No matter dogs or cats, they should be vaccinated against rabies. In many areas, there have been special activities to vaccinate cats and dogs free of charge, which publicize that domestic cats and dogs should be vaccinated against rabies. But because dogs are the main source of rabies, the incidence of rabies spread by cats is less, and most of the cats that spread rabies are stray cats and wild cats, so our country mainly emphasizes the management of dogs, while the management of cats is relatively loose.

Cat bites can also spread cat scratch

Cats often carry a bacterium called 'hansebarthonella' in their bodies, which may lead to cat scratch disease after being scratched or bitten by cats with the bacterium. Cat scratch disease usually occurs 3-7 days after being bitten by a cat. At the beginning, there were erythema, papule, herpes, pustule, scab or small abscess on the local skin of the bite site, and at the same time, there were local lymphangitis and lymphadenopathy. Lymphadenopathy is usually the size of an egg, which is very obvious. It is often seen in the jaw, neck, armpit and groin.

At the same time of lymphadenopathy, the patient also has symptoms of low fever, headache, chills, general weakness, discomfort, cough, anorexia, nausea or vomiting. In addition to lymphadenopathy, cat scratch disease can also have hepatosplenomegaly, which is often misdiagnosed as tuberculosis or tumor. Sometimes, Bartonella, which causes cat scratch disease, can also cause eye diseases, such as optic neuroretinitis, conjunctivitis or retinal vasculitis, and even brain type cat scratch disease, which is characterized by epileptic convulsion or coma, but rarely causes death.
