At 11:00 p.m. on December 17, Yuexiu police in Guangzhou reported that at about 17:00 p.m. on December 16, Yuexiu police received a public alarm saying that a man fell to the ground from upstairs on the sidewalk opposite the North block of Datong square on Yide road.
After receiving the report, Yuexiu police immediately sent personnel to the scene for disposal and informed the '120' medical staff to be present, the report said. Medical staff confirmed that the man had died.
According to the report, after preliminary investigation, Xu (female, 32 years old, from Heilongjiang Province), the owner of a clothing store, suspected Huang (male, 20 years old, from Huilai, Guangdong Province) of stealing clothes from the store's warehouse (the warehouse was located on the 9th floor of Datong square where the incident occurred). Before the incident, Xu and his boyfriend Liu (male, 41 years old, from Guangzhou) and four other men went to the warehouse to find Huang and questioned him. During this period, Huang fell from the balcony on the 9th floor. According to the preliminary forensic investigation, Huang met the characteristics of high drop death.
