How does sweater shrink after washing? How to restore the sweater

It's often the case that the newly bought sweater shrinks and deforms after washing, and the sweater shrinks and deforms after heat. What's the matter? How can the sweater shrink and restore to its original state? Today's Xiaobian will give you advice.

Why clothes shrink

The main reason of clothing shrinkage lies in the structure and properties of fabric fibers. The better the hygroscopicity is, the greater the shrinkage is; the closer the fabric structure is, the higher the shrinkage is. For example, wool fabric is easy to shrink, and it is difficult to recover after shrinking. This is due to the different friction coefficients between the scales of wool fiber.

In addition, the formation of fabric in the production process will also have a certain impact. For example, in the process of spinning, weaving, printing and dyeing, the fiber and spinning thread of the fabric are subject to a series of mechanical stretching and pressure spreading, resulting in deformation. Once washed with water, the fiber and yarn are affected by moisture and heat, the deformation part will recover rapidly, and then shrink.

The shrinkage of cotton and rayon is related to the hydrophilicity of their own plant fibers. These fibers have loose molecular arrangement and large molecular gap. Water molecules are easy to drill in. When washing the fabric with water, the fibers will expand, but the length will be shortened.

Our daily clothes are mainly made of cotton, wool, polyester, viscose, linen, nylon and other common fabrics. These fabrics have a certain shrinkage. From the large categories, the shrinkage of synthetic fiber is the smallest, followed by cotton and linen fabrics, silk fabrics have a large shrinkage, viscose fiber, artificial cotton, artificial wool fabrics have the largest shrinkage.

How to restore the shrinking sweater

1. Use baby shampoo bubble

Baby shampoo can relax the fibers in the shrunken clothes, make the fibers easier to stretch, and then make the shrunken clothes return to the original state. Generally speaking, except for silk fabric, other materials can be used.

Fill the basin with warm water, put some baby shampoo, mix it well, immerse the shrunk clothes in the water, soak for about 5 minutes, take out the clothes, squeeze out the water, and then lay it on the dry towel;

Then, take a towel long enough, wrap the clothes with a towel and roll them up. After a few minutes, open the towel, take out the clothes, stretch them to a proper size, and then dry them normally. Pay attention to accurate measurement when stretching clothes, do not stretch too much and cause deformation.

2. Use vinegar or borax

This method can be used for wool and cashmere clothing. Add 500ml white vinegar to each liter of water, mix well, soak the wool clothing in water for at least 25 minutes, if the clothing shrinks seriously, stretch it a few times when soaking;

Then take out the soaked clothes and wring out the water, spread the clothes on the towel, roll them into a ball, wring them out again, let the towel roll the clothes for about 10 minutes, take out the clothes, and then smooth them to dry. For borax, the ratio of water to borax is 2:1.

3. Steam iron

Shrink clothes are heated with a steam iron and then stretched with both hands while they are hot. Generally speaking, the heating area of the steam iron is limited, and it is impossible to stretch many fibers at a time, so it is necessary to repeatedly heat and stretch them. After pulling out, measure the total length with a ruler. If the length is not enough, pull it several times again. Pay attention not to over pull the size, and finally adjust it appropriately.

Or cover the clothes on the big cardboard, and then iron them with an iron. The clothes can be restored to their original state.

4. Send directly to the dry cleaner

If the clothes shrink seriously, you can send them directly to the dry cleaning shop. After the dry cleaning, you can find a special shelf with the same model as the clothes, hang the sweaters, and after the high-temperature steam treatment, the clothes can be restored to their original shape.
