China Kaifeng Chrysanthemum fair started in 1983. Every year, a chrysanthemum fair is held in October, and the chrysanthemum is named as the city flower of Kaifeng. In 1994, the 12th chrysanthemum fair in Kaifeng City was renamed as "China Kaifeng Chrysanthemum fair".
Since 2000, Kaifeng Chrysanthemum Fair has been designated as a provincial Festival by Henan provincial Party committee and provincial government. In 2013, it was upgraded to a national flower fair. Kaifeng is the only city where chrysanthemums hold annual meetings once a year. From October 18 to November 18 of each year, chrysanthemum flower fair is held.

From June 28 to 29, 2012, according to the deliberation opinions of the 23rd Meeting of the 13th Standing Committee of Kaifeng Municipal People's Congress, the Standing Committee of Kaifeng Municipal People's Congress decided to change the name of China Kaifeng Chrysanthemum Flower Fair to China Kaifeng Chrysanthemum Culture Festival. So far, 'Kaifeng Chrysanthemum fair' is coming to an end.
Kaifeng Chrysanthemum has a long history. The reason why Kaifeng Chrysanthemum society can plant deep roots in the hot land of the ancient city has its profound historical origin. The records of planting chrysanthemum in Kaifeng can be traced back to the southern and Northern Dynasties more than 1600 years ago. It began to take shape in the Tang Dynasty.
