As in the previous replacement work, the construction personnel climbed onto the city building, first leaned down to the hanging place of Chairman Mao's portrait, slowly and gently removed the old portrait, and then lifted the portrait away from the hanging position with a crane until the old portrait was completely removed. The crane's boom is raised again, and it hooks firmly on the top of the new portrait parked on the truck, hangs the portrait, and approaches the center of the Tiananmen Gate Tower. Throughout the process, the portrait did not sway. Thirty minutes later, the newly painted portrait of Chairman Mao was hung in the center of the Tiananmen Gate Tower. The construction personnel also carefully wiped the bottom frame of the portrait with a towel. At 0:05 on September 28, the replacement was completed, and the whole process lasted for more than 1 hour.

It is understood that on the eve of the National Day every year, the city building of Tian'anmen will replace the portrait of Chairman Mao with a new one, and the old one, which has been slightly faded by the wind and sun, will be removed.
