Cell insights, a foreign testing agency, tested two baseband versions of iPhone 7. In general, the baseband performance of Qualcomm's version of iPhone 7 is 30% better than that of Intel's version, while in weak signal conditions, Qualcomm's performance is even better, 75% higher than that of Intel's version.
Signals have always been Apple's weakness
Many people say that Apple's CPU is very powerful, which is true. But a whole chip is called SOC, which integrates CPU, GPU, WiFi chip, Bluetooth chip, baseband, DSP, ISP and so on. Among them, Apple's chip does not have its own baseband, and has been using the external baseband.
Baseband is very important. Baseband determines the network system supported by the whole mobile phone and the quality and speed of Internet and call. If the baseband is not good, the signal of the mobile phone is poor.
Baseband is also the place where patents are relatively intensive. Qualcomm's baseband is unique in the world, and Huawei's baseband patent is second only to Qualcomm. This is also one of the manifestations of global voice in the field of communication.
