Puqian sea crossing bridge is located at the sea entrance of Dongzhai port at the northeast end of Hainan Island. It is a sea crossing bridge connecting Haikou and Wenchang. The bridge starts from Puqian Town, Wenchang City, passes through Beigang Island, ends at Tower City, Yanfeng Town, Haikou City, and connects with Jiangdong Avenue planned and constructed by Haikou City. As the largest cross sea bridge project in Hainan Province, Puqian bridge is also the longest, the highest bridge tower, the highest level of earthquake resistance and wind resistance single tower double cable plane steel box girder cable-stayed bridge in Hainan Province. The total length of the bridge is 5.597 km, including 3.8 km long sea crossing bridge, 460 m long main bridge and 151.8 m high tower. The whole bridge is constructed according to the standard of two-way six lane class I highway.

Huang Peng, chief engineer of Puqian bridge project of the second navigation bureau, introduced that under the main bridge pier of Puqian bridge are two separate cushion cap foundations, 16 steel pipe composite piles with a diameter of 4.3m and a length of 38m are set under a single cushion cap, which is the first time in the construction of super large diameter steel pipe composite piles of the same type of bridge. It is the same as sinking 12 storey high buildings with an area of about 300m2 into the sea floor and firmly driving them into the sea like a dinghaishenpin In the deep rock of the sea floor, the single bearing platform of the main pier is 8000 cubic meters of mass concrete structure, which makes the main tower of the bridge sit on the sea floor like Mount Tai, effectively preventing the impact of local typhoon, earthquake and other abnormal climate on the bridge.

The bridge site of Puqian bridge is the epicenter of Qiongshan 7.5 earthquake more than 410 years ago, and it is also a potential focal area. The bridge is located near the intersection of three faults, and it is the first large bridge across the seismically active fault in China. Due to the limitation of planning and terrain conditions, the bridge site can not effectively avoid faults, and the complex geological conditions bring severe challenges to the construction, so the traditional construction technology must be broken.

Huang Peng introduced that the project team increased the density of pile foundation reinforcement framework through technical innovation, and the amount of steel and concrete used was 1.5 to 2 times of that of the general same type of sea crossing bridge; the pier was designed as a four-sided vase shaped pier body, which could effectively prevent the beam from falling during the earthquake; the anti-seismic bearing was set between the pier and the main beam, and 16 'safety ropes' were pulled between the bridge deck box beam and the main tower beam, which could resist wind and earthquake At both sides of the main tower, dampers are also set at the end of the stay cable beam, which can effectively absorb energy and reduce vibration, so that the bridge can finally cross the earthquake fault and realize the traffic dream from Wenchang to Haikou. It is reported that all measures can resist the m 9 earthquake. When the m 9 earthquake comes, the main structure of the bridge will not be damaged, and it can still be used.
