The 15th anniversary of the Indian Ocean tsunami killed 230000 people

On December 26, 15 years after the Indian Ocean tsunami disaster, thousands of people in many Asian countries held a memorial ceremony to remember more than 200000 victims. The affected countries have now improved the tsunami early warning system. Experts believe that 'if there is a tsunami like that in 2004, so many people will not die'.

That year, the tsunami waves reached a maximum of 30 meters and rolled towards the coasts and cities of Indonesia, Thailand, India and Sri Lanka.

170000 people were killed in the tsunami in Indonesia and 120000 in Aceh Province alone. In Thailand, 53000 people were killed in the tsunami.

The tsunami was caused by an undersea earthquake with a magnitude of more than 9, the third strongest earthquake in history. The whole village was swept away and the ships were washed up on land. The economic loss is immeasurable.
