Gao Yubao, born in Sunjiatun village, Wafangdian, Liaoning Province in 1927, worked as a laborer at the age of 15, studied carpentry at the age of 17, joined the Chinese people's Liberation Army at the age of 20 and joined the Communist Party of China in 1948. He was admitted to the Journalism Department of Renmin University of China in 1962. He has successively served as a soldier, correspondent, literature and Art Officer, division creator, member of the second Central Committee of the Communist Youth League, director of China Germany Friendship Association, director of Liaoning folk literature association, and honorary director of the creation Office of Shenyang Military Region. He was received 23 times by the older generation of Party and state leaders such as Mao Zedong, Zhou Enlai and Deng Xiaoping.

Gao Yubao only went to school for one month, but he has written works totaling more than 2 million words. In addition to the autobiographical novel Gao Yubao, he also wrote novels Chunyan, I am a soldier and Gao Yubao sequel, and published more than 100 short stories, essays, reportage, etc. In Gao Yubao, chapters such as "chicken crowing in the middle of the night" and "I want to read" have been incorporated into primary and secondary school textbooks, and "chicken crowing in the middle of the night" has also been made into a puppet film.

Because Gao Yubao only went to school for one month, when he wrote the autobiographical novel Gao Yubao, he had many ideas about the story, but he couldn't write words. For each sentence, nine out of ten words couldn't write, so he had to replace the words he couldn't write with pictures or symbols. The manuscript of the novel Gao Yubao, which is now displayed in the Military Museum in Beijing, is densely painted with many pictures and symbols. For example, the word "ghost" of "Japanese devils are coming" is replaced by a grimace, and the word "kill" is replaced by a picture of a knife on the neck & hellip& hellip;

Gao Yubao's most famous work is the crowing of a chicken in the middle of the night. On April 20, 1955, China Youth Publishing House published Gao Yubao's autobiographical novel Gao Yubao for the first time. The ninth chapter of the novel is called "chicken crowing in the middle of the night". The story tells that the landlord nicknamed "Zhou paopi" got into the chicken cage to learn chicken crowing in the middle of the night in order to make the long-term workers get up early. Finally, he was teased by the long-term workers.

Due to Gao Yubao's absurd act of "chicken crowing in the middle of the night", the landlord "Zhou pickpocketing", whose real name is Zhou Chunfu, was immediately established as a typical image of a "bully landlord" and became famous throughout the country. In 1964, "midnight chicken crow" was adapted into an art film, making the image of "Zhou Pi Pi" a household name. Bi Feiyu, a famous writer, once gave a literature lecture called "the crutch of literature" on the crowing of a chicken in the middle of the night.
