Toshiba announced on the 25th that it has developed a new technology that can detect 13 cancers from a drop of blood with 99% accuracy, and will start an empirical test from 2020. Tokyo Medical University and National Cancer Research Center also participate in the research and strive to put it into formal use within a few years.

According to Kyodo news, the technology can detect 13 kinds of cancers, such as breast cancer, pancreatic cancer, esophageal cancer, gastric cancer, colorectal cancer, and so on by examining the molecular species and concentrations of'MicroRNA', which are secreted in the blood. After being put into practical use, it is expected to improve the survival rate of patients.

Toshiba has also successfully developed chips and small instruments that can easily detect RNA in a short time. It is said that the relevant equipment can measure the results within 2 hours, and the price is controlled within 20000 yen (about 1294 yuan). However, simple tests alone cannot determine which cancer you have.

Toshiba has developed relevant examination technology based on the microRNA medical research results of Tokyo Medical University and National Cancer Research Center. According to previous reports, researchers from Toray group and other institutions are also developing such technologies. However, Toshiba said that its technology 'has advantages in precision, time and cost'. The details of the study will be published at the 42nd Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of molecular biology held in Fukuoka, Japan, from December 3 to 8.
