The press center for the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the people's Republic of China held the second press conference on the same day. Ma Xiaowei disclosed the above figures to the media at the press conference.

Ma Xiaowei said that over the past 70 years, China's main health indicators have been better than the average level of middle - and high-income countries, and less investment has been used to solve the problem of medical treatment for one sixth of the world's population.

According to him, after 70 years of efforts, the changes in China's medical and health undertakings mainly include six aspects:

--The medical and health network has been continuously improved. A three-level network of medical prevention and health care covering cities (provinces, cities and counties) and rural areas (counties, townships and villages) has been established, making it possible for all people to enjoy basic medical care. In 2018, private hospital beds accounted for more than 26% of the total beds in China. The total number of medical and health institutions in China exceeds 990000, with 8.4 million beds. The total number of health system personnel has reached 12.31 million, the number of doctors per 1000 population has reached 2.59, and the number of nurses per 1000 population has reached 2.94, exceeding the average level of middle-income countries.

--Health investment has been increasing. In 2018, China's total health expenditure accounted for 6.6% of GDP. Financial subsidies for basic medical insurance for urban and rural residents and subsidies for basic public health services per capita have been continuously improved. In a relatively short time, the world's largest basic medical security network has been established. The proportion of personal health expenditure in the total health expenditure decreased to 28.6%, entering the lowest level in this century.

--We will put prevention first and curb major diseases. China's implementation of the planned immunization system has reduced vaccine preventable infectious diseases to a very low level. We should pay attention to controlling major diseases and control the major diseases such as AIDS, tuberculosis, schistosomiasis and hepatitis B, and the prevention and treatment of Occupation Diseases and endemic diseases have achieved encouraging results.

--The medical service capacity continued to improve. In 2018, the total number of outpatient and emergency patients in China exceeded 8.3 billion and the number of discharged patients exceeded 250 million. We made every effort to carry out health poverty alleviation and ensure the health of key groups such as women, children, the elderly, the disabled and the poor.

--Give full play to the characteristic advantages of traditional Chinese medicine and promote inheritance and innovation. Strengthen the training of TCM talents, select and commend national medical masters, promote the appropriate technology of TCM, and promote the overseas development of TCM.

--Expand international health exchanges and participate in global health governance. China has sent 26000 medical team members and 280 million patients to 71 countries, strengthened cooperation with international organizations, supported the fight against Ebola hemorrhagic fever in West Africa, and signed and implemented more than 160 cooperation agreements in the field of health with international organizations, relevant countries and regions.
