International Physics Olympiad

The full English name of the International Physics Olympiad is International Physics Olympiad, abbreviated as iPho. The purpose of iPho is to 'promote the development of international exchanges in school physics education' by organizing international physics competitions for middle school students, so as to emphasize 'the growing importance of physics in all science and technology and general education for young people'. After nearly 30 years of successful hosting of iPho, its international reputation has become higher and higher, and its role has been affirmed by UNESCO and the European Physical Society (EPS).

In view of the achievements of iPho in promoting the progress of physics education and promoting international exchanges, the International Committee on Physics Education (1cpe) awarded iPho a permanent copper medal in October 1991, which was kept by the host country in turn.

In July 2018, five middle school students participated in the 49th International Physics Olympiad on behalf of Hong Kong and won one gold medal, three silver medals and one bronze medal.
