The oldest animal in the world is not the tortoise

The 11 oldest animals on earth

The oldest animal in the world

The clam in the picture belongs to a clam named Ming, who lived in a humble way when he was 507 years old. Maybe scientists didn't find it, it will live longer. Unfortunately, if we don't kill it, we can't open the shell to see how old the oldest animal on earth is.

Although Ming is dead, it has made a contribution to science: its shell can give scientists a deeper understanding of ocean temperature changes over the past 500 years, and perhaps unlock the secrets of aging.

2. The oldest tortoise

The tortoise has become a symbol of longevity, but adwaita, a tortoise in an Indian zoo, has set a world record that will not be broken in a short time: it has lived for 250 years, longer than the U.S. government.

Adwaita's life began in the early 18th century and was captured in the Seychelles and given to British General Robert Clive. Clive kept it as a pet and donated it to the zoo in 1875. He lived in the same zoo for more than 125 years and died in 2006. Adwaita's shell was identified to determine its age.

3. The oldest remaining land animals

We know that there are corals that have lived for thousands of years, and bowhead whale that has lived for centuries. But few terrestrial animals have such a long life span. The oldest recorded terrestrial animal is Jonathan, a living tortoise.

The turtle, also from the Seychelles, was taken to the residence of the ruler of Saint Helena in 1882. According to a black-and-white photo collected during the 1990 war, it is at least 182 years old, and it is absolutely impossible for anyone to break its record in a short time.

4. The oldest cat

Tiffany two, the oldest cat in the world, died early this year and lived 27 years. The title hasn't been verified by Guinness World Records, but 27 years is not long enough for a cat to live to 38.

Cream puff lives in Austin with his owner, Jake Perry, and a cat lives with them, as well as granpa. Granpa kept the title of the world's oldest cat until she died. Cream puff finally lived beyond the age of 34, surpassed granpa and won the title of the oldest cat.

Since both cats are pets of one person, many people wonder whether Perry gives them different foods (bacon, eggs, asparagus and broccoli) and whether these foods can make cats live longer.
