According to the Wall Street Journal, Alibaba has invested US $10 million in Ouya, a game mechanism manufacturer, and Ouya's software and more than 1000 games will soon be integrated into Alibaba's set-top box. Although Alibaba said it would not comment on the market rumors, the low-cost set-top box game market may break out at any time after the lifting of the 14 year long ban on game machines in China.
However, although Ouya has received a $10 million injection from Alibaba, this low-cost product is difficult to compete with Sony Playstation and Microsoft Xbox in the U.S. game console market. Therefore, considering the production cost of game console hardware equipment, Ouya has to shift from hardware to game licensing.
