Wisteria sinensis, a deciduous vine of Leguminosae subfamily pterygoideae, is native to China and widely distributed in North China.
Legend of Wisteria
There is a beautiful girl who wants to have a relationship, so she prays every day that the moon in red in the sky can be completed. Finally, Yuelao in red was moved by the girl's piety, and said to her in her dream, "when spring comes, in the woods of the back mountain, you will meet a man in white, that is the love you want." Wait until the day of spring flowers, infatuated girl as about alone came to the back mountain woods. But until it was getting dark, the man in white still didn't appear. When the girl was nervous and disappointed, she was bitten by a snake in the grass. From then on, the man who fell in love with the girl in white clothes breathed her life helplessly. But the white man's family was poor, and their marriage was opposed by the woman's parents. In the end, the two lovers both jumped over the cliff and died. On the edge of the cliff where they died for their love, there grew a tree, which was actually wrapped with a vine, and blossomed flower drops, purple with blue, as bright as clouds. Later generations call the flower on the vine Wisteria flower. Wisteria flower needs to wrap around the tree and can't survive alone. Some people say that Wisteria is the incarnation of a girl, and a man in white is the incarnation of a tree. Wisteria is born for love and dies for love.
morphological character:
The bark of the stem of Wisteria is dark gray, unbroken, and the tender branches are dark yellow green and pubescent. Odd pinnate compound leaves alternate, with 7-13 ovate elliptic leaflets; flowers purple or dark purple, total pedicels, pedicels and calyx densely pilose; pods oblate, densely covered with white villi, seeds oblate, black.
The flowering period is from April to may, and the ripening period is from August to September.
Ecological habits:
Wisteria is a warm and temperate plant. It has strong adaptability to climate and soil. It is more resistant to cold, moisture, barren soil, light and shade. It is most suitable for cultivation in the place with deep soil layer, good drainage and shelter from the sun and wind. The main root is deep and the lateral root is shallow. It grows fast and has a long life. It can strangle other plants.
Reproduction mode:
It can be used sowing, cutting, layering, splitting, grafting and other methods, mainly sowing and cutting, but because the seedling culture takes a long time, cutting is the most widely used.
Flower language: born for love, die for love.
Pruning process:
1. The dead branches and branches growing from the roots should be cut off from the base.
2. The strong branches and thick branches that grow in summer will have few flower buds in the coming year, and there will be a lot of vines in the coming year. If it is not for the sake of tree shape, they will be cut off from the base.
3. Considering the overall tree shape, the hanging shape after flowering is predicted, and the spacing of branches is adjusted.
4. Cut off unnecessary vines and short flower branches.
5. For the adjustment of long vine and short flower branch, a flower bud will have 30-40 cm flower ears. If there are too many flower ears, it will not be beautiful, and it will affect the tree shape in the next year. The number of flower buds needs to be adjusted. Generally, the flower buds with 3-5 buds on a flower branch are OK, and the others can be pruned.
Of course, if your Wisteria doesn't blossom, in addition to the reason of pruning, it may be that it's not mature yet, it's not flowering yet, there's not enough fertilizer, it's overgrown and so on.
