How to prune the crown of potted Osmanthus fragrans

Osmanthus fragrans potted pruning Osmanthus fragrans to make its crown plump method the germination rate of Osmanthus fragrans branches is low, one branch only germinates one terminal bud, rarely germinates more than two branches, and many axillary buds around are dormant, showing a single branch extension growth state. The single branch of the young branch extends, forcing the branch to grow excessively, 20 cm short and more than 50 cm long. The height of a young branch can reach 60-70 cm after 2-3 years, and the height of a flourishing tree can reach more than 1 meter, but there are only a few branches. It not only affects the shape, but also delays the flowering time.

If the branches are cut to the base by heavy cutting, the latent buds can be forced to germinate and form more branches. However, when the new shoots germinate again, they are still extended in the form of single bud, and the original shape is not changed much. This paper introduces the method of forcing bud and pruning, which can make the crown of potted Osmanthus fragrans young trees plump. The specific methods are as follows:

(1) Break the branch to force the bud. When most of the young shoots sprouted in spring stopped growing, all the new branches were broken off from the base. Sometimes, in order to keep the balance of the crown, one or two new shoots can be left at the part of deficient branches, but more shoots should not be left, otherwise the effect of forcing buds will be affected. Because of the destruction of the growth advantage at the top of the branch, the vegetative growth points are redistributed. In the early spring, when the branches sprout, it is also the stage of rapid growth of the roots. However, it suddenly breaks off all the new shoots, breaking the growth balance between the roots and branches, prompting the axillary buds around the branches to sprout rapidly. After about 10 days, they sprout together, 3-5 times or more than the original ones. As the number of new branches doubled and nutrients dispersed, the new branches were short and compact, which was conducive to early formation and flowering.

(2) With the above measures, while breaking buds, adjust the angle of branches, make the crown develop, slow down the top advantage, can more germination, and can leave space for more germinating branches, enhance photosynthesis, is conducive to the expansion of the crown.

(3) In the early stage of germination, the buds that are too strong, too weak and too dense should be properly removed to ensure the growth of new branches.

(4) During the germination period, only a little liquid fertilizer can be applied, or even no fertilizer can be applied, otherwise the new buds will fall off seriously and all previous achievements will be wasted. When the leaves of new branches are basically expanded, and the branches are capped and stopped growing, it is safe to apply appropriate amount of top dressing and gradually increase the amount of top dressing. This kind of shaping method can be carried out until the early flowering stage. If the number of branches is too small and the number of branches is too long, this method can be used at any stage. Of course, appropriate water, fertilizer, light and other conservation measures should be taken to make the crown plump and form as soon as possible.
