Hong Kong traditional snack horseshoe cake

Horseshoe cake, radish cake and taro cake are indispensable pastries for the Spring Festival in southern China. Horseshoe cake has the metaphor of "success in a horse's life, rising step by step". Horseshoe cake is a kind of Guangdong snack. It is steamed with sugar water mixed with water chestnut powder. Its color is yellow, semi transparent, folding but not cracking, pouting constantly, soft, smooth, refreshing and tough, and it tastes very sweet.

Practice:

1. In a pot, add 800 ml of water and sugar to boil over high heat, stir until the sugar melts completely, then turn off the heat to make hot sugar water.

2. In the other pot, mix the horseshoe powder with 500ml cold water, mix well, and make the horseshoe paste.

3. Add the prepared hot sugar water to the mixed horseshoe paste, and stir continuously at the same time. After adding, see whether it is paste like. If not, put the pot on the stove and heat it with a small fire, but stir constantly until the whole horseshoe paste is a little bit semi transparent and rice paste like.

4. Then pour the prepared horseshoe paste into any container, put it on the steamer and steam for about 35 minutes. After steaming, let it cool completely, then pour it out and cut it into the shape you want.
