Zongzi leaves are soft and unbroken. Sago rice is no softer than glutinous rice, so you just need to clean them, drain them, and then you can use them. You don't need to soak them in advance. I use soft candy to make stuffing. It's just fun. Bean paste, jujube puree and jam are all OK, as long as you like.
