Irregular menstruation? Women should pay attention to diet. There are many reasons for women's abnormal menstruation, but disordered diet may also be one of the culprits, according to a new US study.
Researchers from the University of North Carolina reported in the newly published international journal of eating disorders that after tracking 1705 women, they found a close relationship between irregular diet and abnormal menstruation. In women with abnormal menstruation, most of them either suffer from anorexia or often have a full meal. The abnormal menstruation related to irregular diet includes hypomenorrhea, menstrual cessation or irregular menstruation.
The researchers analyzed women with abnormal menstruation. The results showed that nearly 80% of the women suffering from anorexia stopped menstruation for three consecutive months, and different proportions of the women with other dietary problems stopped menstruation.
Cynthia & middot; Blick, a gynecologist in charge of the study, said abnormal menstruation increases women's risk of osteoporosis and may affect their fertility, so menstrual women should maintain good eating habits.
