How to distinguish glass from diamond

To identify glass and diamond, you can put them in water. If it is glass, the luster inside will disappear for a while, and the hardness of glass is lower than that of diamond. If you delimit with diamond, there will be very obvious marks on it. Moreover, diamonds are lipophilic. It's greasy and slippery to take them out in water.

1. Refractive index

The refractive index of glass is very low, so even under sunlight or light, it is impossible to have gorgeous colors. The refractive index of diamond is relatively high. Therefore, when identifying, you can put them in water. At this time, you will find that the luster of glass will disappear in a moment.

2. Hardness

We all know that the hardness of diamonds is very high. The Mohs hardness can reach 10, while that of glass will be lower, about 5.5 ~ 6. Therefore, we use diamonds to draw. What has traces is glass, and what does not exist is naturally diamond.

3. Grease

In addition, diamonds are lipophilic, so when we put diamonds and glass into grease and take them out, we will find that the diamond is greasy and slippery, and the glass will be very clean.
