What instrument is Xiao

Xiao is a kind of musical instrument for playing in the Han Dynasty in ancient times. It has two types: Dongxiao and qinxiao. The difference between the two is single pipe and vertical blowing. Bamboo is generally used as the material for making Xiao. There are eight hole Xiao and six hole Xiao, and Xiao has a very long history.

Under normal circumstances, the Xiao is made of bamboo, but there are also jade Xiao and copper Xiao. The types of Xiao are: Qin Xiao, Yuping Xiao, purple bamboo Dong Xiao, nine section Xiao and modern eight hole Xiao. These Xiao have their own characteristics and different fingering methods.

The eight hole Xiao is a modern work and is generally used in current art colleges. The diameter of the eight hole Xiao is the same as the size of the Dong Xiao, but there are eight sound holes. The method of playing is the same as the traditional Dongxiao, but the fingering is a little different.

The history of Xiao originated in ancient times and has appeared for more than 7000 years. After long-term development, it has evolved into the current Xiao. Xiao was generally used as a court instrument in ancient times.
