The reason why Balkash lake is salty in the East and light in the West

Balkash lake is salty in the East and light in the West because there are few fresh water rivers in the East, while Ili River in the West reduces the salinity of this part, and there is a narrow waterway between the East and west parts to connect them, resulting in the lack of sufficient mixing of lake water on both sides.

Balkash lake is an inland lake in southeastern Kazakhstan. The average water depth of the lake is six meters. The lake covers an area of nearly 20000 square kilometers, and the East-West distance of the lake is 605 kilometers. It is the fourth longest Lake in the world.

Balkash lake has a very unique feature, that is, its East and west parts are salt water lake and fresh water lake respectively. This is because there are few fresh water rivers in the east of Balkash lake, resulting in its high salinity, while Ili River injects fresh water in the West.

In addition, there is only a narrow waterway in the middle part of Balkash lake to connect them, so that the water on the East and west sides of Balkash lake can not be well mixed, so it finally leads to their situation.
