DC motor or AC motor for high-speed railway

The motor used in high-speed railway is called traction motor. It is a kind of three-phase AC motor. It is more suitable for the operation of high-speed railway because of high efficiency, small weight and low price.

As for whether the high-speed railway uses DC motor or AC motor, we first need to know what motor the high-speed railway uses. High speed railway relies on traction motor to generate power during operation, and traction motor is a kind of three-phase AC motor.

First of all, the high-speed railway chooses to use AC motor instead of DC motor because DC motor ages faster and has lower efficiency. AC motor can be divided into three-phase AC motor and single AC motor. Three phase AC motors are selected among AC motors because they are more superior in all aspects. Under the same power, three-phase AC motors will have smaller volume, lighter weight and cheaper price.

Therefore, the high-speed railway chooses to use three-phase AC motor, which is more suitable for home use than single-phase motor.
