Recently, a prehistoric site was discovered in Wujiang Town, Jishui County, Jiangxi Province, pushing the history of human activities in the Jitai basin to about 5000 years ago.

The site is located in the center of the rice field on the North Bank of the en river. It is square in plane, nearly 5 meters higher than the surrounding rice fields, and its side length is about 120 meters. The site is surrounded by a circle of earth walls about 2 meters high, and pile marks can be seen on the cross section; there are square ring ditches around the site, with a total area of about 20000 square meters, which are basically well preserved. In the exposed area of the site, 5-10 cm away from the surface, the original accumulation can be seen. The accumulated soil is compact and layered obviously, with a large number of pottery pieces. According to the analysis of the characteristics of the collection of pottery pieces, experts believe that the site is about 5000 years old.

Researcher of Jiangxi Provincial Museum Xu Changqing: during this period, a high-level power center was formed in Wujiang, which can control social resources to build the city. From the perspective of some cultural relics unearthed on the surface of the city, some pottery wares include red pottery and black leather pottery. These distinctive characteristics of the times are the cultural characteristics of 5000 years ago.
