Nanxun, located in the east of Huzhou City and at the junction of Wujiang County, Jiangsu Province, is one of the six ancient towns in the south of the Yangtze River and the first one listed in the world heritage list. According to the records of gardens in the south of the Yangtze River, there are five gardens in one town, all of which are huge structures, which are rare in the south of the Yangtze River. '

Former residence of Zhang Shiming

Zhang Shiming's former residence is a classic masterpiece of architecture in Nanxun ancient town. It was built by Zhang Jia, one of Nanxun's "four elephants". It is known as the "No.1 residence in the south of the Yangtze River". It is the most private residence with Chinese and Western architectural characteristics in the South of the Yangtze River.

In the old house, the courtyard is deep, the corridors are tortuous, the floors are scattered, the Doric column, the Roman column, the European style gatehouse, the Western dance hall and the iron flower balustrade reflect the style of French Baroque in the 18th century.

There are 150 Chinese and western buildings with unique style, magnificent structure and exquisite workmanship. There are many exquisite and vivid wood carvings, brick carvings, stone carvings and imported glass carvings, which have high artistic appreciation, folk architecture and cultural relic value.

Xiaolianzhuang

Xiaolianzhuang is the home of Liu Yong's private garden and family temple, the head of Nanxun's "four elephants" in the late Qing Dynasty. It took three generations of Liu family more than 40 years to build it, also known as "Liu Garden".

The typical Jiangnan Xiaoxie garden not only inherits the natural spirit of Chinese classical gardens, but also introduces the elements of Western European gardens. It integrates sightseeing, book collection and writing, singing and singing in one. It is luxurious without losing its charm.

Outside the garden, there are 10 mu lotus pools. Every summer, there are lotus fragrance in sunny days and lotus interest in rainy days.

JIAYE Library

Nanxun is an important cultural place in the ancient town. Since ancient times, it worships culture and education. JIAYE library, which is separated from xiaolianzhuang River, is one of the three private libraries in China. It is also the place with the most historical value in Nanxun.

A cloister style two-story library, hidden in the garden, is designed around the collection of books. All the wooden windows are hollowed out and engraved with the seal character 'jiayetang Library'.

It is composed of seven two rooms and left and right wing rooms. There are 52 libraries in total. At its peak, there are 600000 volumes and 180000 volumes of ancient books, many of which are unique books. Among them, the book of Han, the book of post Han, the annals of the Three Kingdoms and the historical records can be regarded as the treasure of the town library.

Liu's ladder number

Liu's ladder, commonly known as' red house ', is the residence of Liu An, the third son of Liu Yong, the head of the four elephants in Nanxun.

Outside, it looks like the typical architectural style of Jiangnan Water Town. When you walk in, you will find that it is a western style building.

The overall building is composed of three parts: the south, the middle and the north. The central part is mainly composed of halls, halls and buildings with traditional Confucian cultural ideas. The interior displays exquisite brick carvings, wood carvings and stone carvings.

In the South and North, Chinese architecture is integrated into Western European Romanesque architecture and Western European Romanesque style.

There is a garden of nearly 300 square meters in the East and West. Trees and flowers are planted in the garden. There is a crescent shaped pond. Beside the pond, there are pavilions, cloisters and other buildings, equipped with beauty seats.

Baijianlou

Nanxun ancient town is not only the luxury houses of these rich businessmen, but also the ordinary houses of the common people.

Baijianlou was built by Dong Fen, the Minister of rites in Wanli of the Ming Dynasty. It is the most complete and traditional community along the river. It starts from the East suspension bridge in the East and ends at the gate pile bridge in the north. Because there are 100 buildings on both sides of the river, it is called "100 buildings".

Here, green tiles and white walls stand in line with the river, with distinct layers, just like a cultural corridor, which is the original residence.

There is not much commercial noise in Nanxun, but rather nostalgic maltose, mottled stone road and winding river.
