Why is Henan short for Henan? The historical change of Henan Province

When it comes to Henan Province, you should be familiar with it! At the same time, we all know that each province has its own abbreviation, and the abbreviation of Henan Province is Yu. For this abbreviation, we all wonder why Henan is called Yu? Some people understand "Yu" as "elephant", but there is no elephant in Henan?

Why is Henan abbreviated as Henan;

In ancient times, in the middle and lower reaches of the Yellow River, there were many rivers, dense forests and wild elephants. Henan was described as a place where people led elephants, which was the root of the pictograph 'Yu'. Therefore, Henan was referred to as' Yu '.

According to historical records, when Dayu controlled the flood, he divided the world into nine states, and called the place where his capital, Yangcheng, was located Yuzhou. In ancient times, all great things were called Yu. In Erya, it was also said that Yu was happy, tired, peaceful and comfortable. Therefore, "Yu" means "noble" in the past.

According to historical records, in the spring and Autumn Annals of the Lu family, there is a description of "merchants' clothing elephant". During the excavation of Yin Ruins in Anyang, oracle bone inscriptions engraved with "Qi Lai Xiang San" and "kuihai Qing Xiang" were also found. In addition, elephant bones and Saber Toothed elephant fossils were found in other places in Zhengzhou and Anyang. It can be proved that a large number of elephants lived in Henan three thousand years ago.

Therefore, Henan is also described as the place where people lead the elephant. This is the origin of the pictograph 'Yu', which is also the origin of Henan's abbreviation 'Yu'. The logo of Henan TV station is an image of an elephant, which shows that people in Henan love elephants.
