How high is Mount Everest, the world's highest peak? Is it 8848.13 or 8844.43?

Everest is the world's highest peak, and many people go to challenge it every year. In fact, Mount Everest is an international peak, half of which is located in Dingri County, Tibet, China, half in Nepal, and the peak is located in China. Because of the influence of a series of natural factors, the peak of Everest is snowmelt and the altitude is reduced, so there are different doubts about the actual height of Everest in the world. So how high is Everest?

As we all know, Everest is not only majestic, but also magnificent. Around it, there are a group of peaks with an altitude of more than 7000 meters. Is it a little intimidated to hear that the altitude of 7000 meters is higher than that of the world's highest Mount Everest.

The altitude is 8848.13m, which was measured by China in 1975 and is widely recognized by the world. However, in 2005, China's National Bureau of Surveying and mapping carried out an accurate survey of Everest. According to the survey results, the altitude of Everest is 8844.43 meters, nearly 4 meters lower than the previous survey data. The reason why the height of Everest will shrink is not that it was measured inaccurately in that year, but mainly because this measurement is based on the 'net height' of Everest.

Every year when we do physical examination, we should have measured the height. Under the guidance of the nurse, is it required that the physical examinee take off his shoes before measuring the height, so that the accurate data can be obtained. So in 2005, China measured the height of Everest accurately. The height of the rock face of Everest was 8844.43 meters (the precision was controlled within & plusmn; 0.21 meters, and the thickness of ice and snow at the peak was 3.5 meters), while the peak was located in China, and the data of 8848.13 meters in 1975 was not used. This result has been recognized by UNESCO and other countries all over the world, so why does the data of 8848 meters still appear?

In fact, in the past few decades, several countries have measured the height of Mount Everest. The height recognized by Nepal is' 8848m ', which was measured by India in 1954 at different positions on the south side of Everest.

However, not only this data, but also different countries have measured the height of Everest at different times. Because of the difference of measurement methods and accuracy, there is still a certain gap in the data obtained.

So since 2010, two kinds of height measurement data have been recognized. The total height of climbers is 8848 meters (29029 feet) of snow cover height (total height) used by climbers in Nepal. In 2005, the height of rock surface (bare height or geological height) measured by the State Bureau of Surveying and mapping of China was 8844.43 meters.

Because the earth is an incomplete sphere, even though Everest is the highest mountain in the world, its peak is not the farthest from the center of the earth.
