Is the origin of Wutai Mountain very famous??

One of the four famous Buddhist mountains in China

Wutai Mountain was not originally called Wutai Mountain, but Zifu mountain, also known as Wufeng mountain Daochang. It used to be a place for Taoists to practice. In the 11th year of Yongping (AD 68) in the Eastern Han Dynasty, the eminent monks of Tianzhu (now India), jiayemorteng and zhuflan, came to Wufeng mountain from Baima temple in Luoyang. They thought that this was a preaching place for Manjusri Bodhisattva, so they wanted to build a temple here to worship Manjusri Bodhisattva. However, the Taoists here did not agree. At last, Emperor Ming of Han Dynasty presided over the competition between Taoists and two eminent monks in Baima Temple of Luoyang, and the two eminent monks won. Since then, the Buddhist community has gained the right to build Buddhist temples in the area of Taihuai town. The first temple built is now Xiantong temple. Since then, after the construction and expansion of various dynasties, the number of temples centered on Taihuai town has reached more than 360 at most, and up to now, there are still more than 100. Therefore, Wutai Mountain is also the first of the four famous Buddhist mountains with its long history and large scale.

Manjusri Bodhisattva preached there, saw the sufferings of the people and expressed deep sympathy, so he made a big wish to save the people from the sea of suffering. Manjusri, dressed as a Buddhist, traveled thousands of miles to the Dragon King of the East China Sea for help. He found a huge bluestone at the gate of the Dragon Palace that can send out cool wind, so he brought it back. When he placed the big Bluestone (the Xielong gem of the East Sea Dragon King) in a valley of Wufeng mountain, in an instant, it became a natural pasture with abundant grass, beautiful water and cool air. After that, the valley was also called Qingliang valley. People built a temple in the valley and surrounded it with cool stones. For this reason, Wufeng mountain is also called Qingliang mountain.

Later, when Emperor Wen of the Sui Dynasty heard about this, he ordered to build a temple on the top of each of the five peaks to worship Manjusri Bodhisattva. That is, wise Manjusri at the top of the East platform, roaring Manjusri at the top of the West platform, wise Manjusri at the top of the South platform, clean Manjusri at the top of the North platform, and child Manjusri at the top of the middle platform. You can see the sunrise on the top of Dongtai, the moon on the top of Xitai, the mountain flowers on the top of Nantai, and the snow on the top of Beitai. This is the origin of Wutai Mountain.

What is the historical legend of Wutai Mountain?

It's said that Wutai Mountain, formerly known as Wufeng mountain, has a very bad climate. In winter, the temperature is very low, water drips into ice, sand flies in spring, and it's very hot in summer. Farmers can't grow crops in the fields at all. One day, Bodhisattva Manjusri happened to pass by Wutai Mountain to preach, and saw that people were suffering. In the midst of deep water and hot water, she decided to change the climate here.

Manjusri Bodhisattva learned that there was a god stone called "Xielong stone" in the Dragon King of the East China Sea, which can make the dry climate wet. So Manjusri Bodhisattva became a monk who changed his fate and went to the Dragon King to borrow the Xielong stone.

When Bodhisattva Manjusri came to the East China Sea, he saw a huge stone outside the Dragon Palace. Before I came to the front, I felt a cool air coming to me. When Manjusri saw the Dragon King, he explained his intention.

The Dragon King was sorry to say: 'the Archmage can borrow anything, but the rest dragon stone can't. Because it took hundreds of years to salvage it from the bottom of the sea. It's very cool. The dragons come back from work every day. They sweat profusely and are hard to bear the heat. So they rest and refresh their spirits. If you borrow it, they won't have a place to rest. "

Manjusri repeatedly stated that he was a monk of Wufeng mountain and came to seek help for the benefit of mankind.

The Dragon King was still reluctant to lend the stone to others, and could not directly refuse the request of Manjusri Bodhisattva. It's estimated that the old monk alone can't carry the stone away. The Dragon King reluctantly agreed: "the stone is very heavy. No one can help you. If you can carry it, take it away!"

Manjusri thanked the Dragon King and went to the stone. In a second, he said a mantra, which immediately turned the stone into a small bullet. Manjusri put the bullet into his sleeve, and went away. The old dragon king was stunned and regretted.

When Manjusri returned to Wufeng mountain, it was the hot sun in the sky. Because of the long drought and the dry land, people suffered deeply. Manjusri placed the stone in a valley between the mountains. A miracle happened: Wufeng mountain immediately became a cool natural pasture. Therefore, the valley was named Qingliang Valley, where people built a temple called Qingliang temple.

This is the source legend of Wutai Mountain.
