Take stock of the disappearing scenic spots in the world and never regret it!

I believe we have seen the recent news about the near drying up of Victoria Falls, which makes people worried. We might as well go and see it before it dries up when we have time! So, did Victoria Falls dry up? What scenic spots in the world are disappearing?

Is Victoria Falls dry

Victoria Falls, also known as moxiotunya falls, is located in the middle reaches of Zambezi River in Africa and the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe. It is more than 1700 meters (5500 feet) wide and 108 meters (355 feet) high. It is one of the world-famous waterfall wonders. In 1989, Victoria Falls was listed in the world heritage list.

The water of the waterfall comes from the Zambezi River. When the river is full, the water flow per second is as high as 7500 cubic meters. The turbulent River rushes to the cliff and splashes up to 300 meters (1000 feet), which can be seen from 65 kilometers (40 miles). Every time the new moon rises, a dazzling moon rainbow is reflected in the water mist, and the scenery is very charming.

However, due to the severe drought in Zimbabwe, Africa, the Victoria Falls in its territory has almost dried up, and the water level has dropped to the lowest level in about 25 years. And because Zimbabwe and neighboring Zambia mostly rely on hydropower stations upstream of the waterfall for power generation, it also triggered a power outage crisis.

What scenic spots in the world are disappearing

great barrier reef

Australia's Great Barrier Reef is the largest and longest coral reef group in the world. It runs through the northeast coast of Australia. It has 2900 large and small coral reef islands, and the natural landscape is very special. When the wind is calm, the cruise ship passes here. The continuous colorful and diverse coral scenery under the ship has become the best underwater spectacle to attract tourists from all over the world. In 1981, the Great Barrier Reef was listed in the world natural heritage list.

In the past 30 years, the Great Barrier Reef has sunk more than half due to the rise of temperature. In addition, in March 2017, scientists found that most of the coral reefs in the most primitive northern area of the Great Barrier Reef had been killed by overheated seawater in 2016. To the south, the coral reefs in the middle of the Great Barrier Reef are now whitening due to acid pollution. Scientists predict that coral reefs may disappear completely by 2030.

Tuvalu

Tuvalu is a bright pearl in the South Pacific. It is said that less than 50 Chinese have been to this country. It is a Pacific island country between Australia and Hawaii. It is the second small island country in the world after Nauru, which is composed of nine annular coral islands. Due to the extremely low terrain, the highest point is only 4m above sea level, Tuvalu is the country most threatened by sea level rise in the world.

With the aggravation of the greenhouse effect, the sea level has been rising. The sea level of the archipelago surrounded by seawater increased by 9.12 cm from 1993 to 2009. According to this figure, after 50 years, the sea level will rise by 37.6 cm, which means that at least 60% of Tuvalu will completely sink into the sea. Maybe one day it will completely disappear on this earth.

European Alps

The alpine scenery is very charming. The mountain glacier presents a polar scenery. It is a world-famous scenic spot and tourist resort. It is known as the 'palace of nature' and the 'real landform exhibition hall' by the world. It is also a holy land for ice and snow sports and a paradise for explorers.

However, climate change has seriously affected the Alps. The annual loss rate of glaciers here is about 3%, that is, at this rate, there may be no more glaciers in 2050. This is undoubtedly 'bad news' for tourism lovers, ice and snow sports lovers and exploration lovers.
