Who is easy to get dry eye? How to relieve and treat dry eye

Long term use of the computer, looking at mobile phones, dry eyes; the surface of the eyeball seems to be lack of lubricant, difficult to rotate; the eyes seem to be suddenly pricked, feel tingling; suddenly shed a lot of tears, but usually still feel dry; sometimes see things clearly, sometimes Fuzzy & hellip; & hellip; if you have these symptoms, be careful! You may have been targeted by dry eye. So what solution does dry eye have? How to alleviate and treat dry eye disease?

Dry eye is the most common eye disease in ophthalmic clinic

According to Zhang Guoliang, deputy chief ophthalmologist of Guang'anmen Hospital, dry eyes are usually characterized by dryness, foreign body sensation, pain, burning sensation, itching, blurred vision, photophobia, tears, etc. The symptoms are mild and severe, early performance for foreign body feeling, the development of the disease will have a burning feeling. Dry eye is the most prominent symptom, especially in the outdoor wind, concentration lead to blink reduction is more obvious, wake up in the morning, dry eye symptoms are very obvious.

Why dry eyes? "Less tears on the surface of the eyes!" Dr. Zhang explained. Less tears is only one aspect. On the other hand, the poor quality of tears is also the most important reason for the formation of dry eyes. It seems that the quality and quantity of tears are very important. Let's understand the tears first. Tears are not simply the components of water, it is composed of lacrimal gland, accessory lacrimal gland, meibomian gland and conjunctival goblet cells. It is a kind of weak alkaline transparent liquid, which is composed of mucus, serous (water) and lipid. The three components are distributed on the surface of the eyeball, forming a tear film with a thickness of only 7 microns. Although it is only 7 microns thin, its physiological function includes many aspects. The first is to lubricate the eyeball and prevent the cornea and conjunctiva from drying. In addition, it also includes maintaining the optical properties of the cornea, supplying oxygen and nutrition to the cornea, washing the tiny foreign bodies and microorganisms on the surface of the eyeball, killing and preventing the invasion of pathogenic microorganisms.

Lacrimal gland and accessory lacrimal gland constitute the "water supply system" of the tear film. The reduction of their secretion will directly lead to the reduction of the amount of tears and the formation of dry eyes. The meibomian gland acts as the 'water locking system' of the tear film. The reduction or poor quality of the lipid secreted by the meibomian gland will directly cause the tears to evaporate, resulting in the lack of water on the surface of the eyeball and the formation of dry eyes. For example, if you put a glass of water in the natural air, it will evaporate every day. Only when you add water to the cup in time, it will not cause the cup to dry completely. This is what we call 'dry eye with insufficient tear generation'. If you add a layer of oil to the surface of the water in the cup, it can effectively lock up the water and reduce the evaporation of water. If you remove this layer of oil, the evaporation rate of water will be greatly increased than before, which will lead to the dry eye of "excessive evaporation". Even if the water supply system is normal, it will also cause the patient's discomfort.

Who is prone to dry eyes

There are many factors causing dry eye, such as old age, female, environment, application of visual terminals, application of corneal contact lenses, excessive use of eye drops, stimulation of eye surgery, rheumatic immune diseases and so on.

If young people wear contact lenses for a long time, it will affect the dynamics of tears and the damage of keratoconjunctival epithelium.

● focus on the computer, mobile phone, etc. for a long time every day, resulting in less blinking times or insufficient blinking, excessive evaporation of tears, and no effective compression of meibomian gland, thus reducing lipid secretion.

For people who stay in air-conditioned room for a long time, the air humidity is low, and the air velocity on the eyeball surface increases, which will directly cause the rapid evaporation of tear film and the formation of dry eyes.

Long term use of eye drops or self long-term use of eye drops in glaucoma patients will lead to the decrease of conjunctival goblet cells and the formation of dry eyes due to insufficient mucin secretion.

People in areas with heavy air pollution, such as smoke and dust, wind and sand, can affect the quality and quantity of tears, which is easy to cause dry eyes.

How to relieve and treat dry eye

1. Improve daily environment and pay attention to diet. The patients who use the computer for a long time should blink consciously. They need to rest for about 10 minutes every hour. At this time, they can see the scenery outside the window. For objects 5 meters away, they will have a good rest as long as they don't use their eyes close. Try not to wear soft contact lenses. In spring and autumn, humidifiers can be placed indoors to increase air humidity and avoid air conditioning and fans blowing directly to the face. Diet can increase the intake of fish, reduce carbohydrate intake.

2. Hot compress eyes. After using eyes for a long time, cover your eyes with hot towel or handkerchief (close your eyes at the same time), 1 to 2 times a day, hot compress for about 10 to 15 minutes each time. The dry eye of "excessive evaporation type" is due to the bad function of meibomian gland and the obstruction of the opening, which makes the oil become sticky and difficult to discharge. At this time, hot compress can be used to heat the eyelid to let the oil flow again, and then go to the hospital with certain instruments and techniques to press to restore the smooth flow of meibomian gland.

3. Medical treatment. When many people feel dry or tired, they often go to the drugstore or online to buy some eye drops, which is wrong. Should go to the regular hospital diagnosis, according to the degree of illness to determine the treatment. Eye drops should also follow the correct method of use, frequent use and long-term use of eye drops containing preservatives, not only will not treat dry eyes, but also aggravate the symptoms of dry eyes. Therefore, the choice of medication must follow the doctor's advice.
