What are Wenkai and wukai

On April 8, the ice layer of Qinghai lake began to melt and the lake officially opened. According to the staff, Kaihu is one of the four wonders of Qinghai Lake. So do you know what Wenkai and wukai are? Follow Xiaobian to understand the reasons for the formation of this spectacle.

It is divided into two types: Wenkai and wukai. When the ice layer was pushed and piled up to the edge of the lake, the scene was spectacular. It was predicted that the ice cover of Qinghai Lake on the 15th would be completely thawed.

Qinghai Lake is divided into Wenkai and wukai. Compared with Wenkai, where ice melting slows down, the ice layer on the lake splits in the fierce monsoon, and is pushed toward wukai, which is more visual impact.

According to the remote sensing center of Qinghai Institute of Meteorological Sciences, Qinghai Lake, the largest inland lake in China, began to thaw on April 1, 14 days later than the average over the years. Liu Baokang, senior engineer of Qinghai Institute of Meteorological Sciences, said in an interview with China News Agency on the 4th that the main reason for the delay in thawing was the low temperature around the lake. As no particularly large crater was found in most areas, Qinghai Lake was still "Wenkai" this year.

Before that, a small video of "opening Qinghai Lake" circulated in wechat circle of friends, and some media reported that this year's opening of Qinghai Lake was "wukai".

Although the ice surface of Qinghai Lake gradually thins and melts with the increase of temperature. However, during the opening process of Qinghai Lake this year, no large cracks and drastic changes occurred. The thawing process belongs to "Wenkai";. Liu Baokang said that the biggest difference between Wenkai and wukai is that Qinghai Lake can only be called wukai if it encounters strong wind, strong weather cooling and rapid warming in a short period of time, causing the ice layer on the lake to explode from south to North and cracks everywhere.

Liu Baokang said that Qinghai Lake usually enters the freezing period in the middle of December every year and thaws completely in the middle of April the next year. Affected by the ambient temperature this year, the thawing period of Qinghai Lake this year has been delayed by 14 days compared with the average value of previous years (2003-2015). It is expected that the complete thawing of Qinghai Lake may be in late April.

Qinghai Lake is the largest saline lake in China, which maintains the ecological security of the northeast of Qinghai Tibet Plateau. The characteristics and evolution of the ecological environment in this area reflect the changing trend of the overall ecological environment of the Qinghai Tibet Plateau to a great extent.
