What's the meaning behind the change of Japanese year name to Linghe year name

On the morning of January 1, Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Kan Yiwei officially announced at a press conference that the Japanese New Year's number is "Linghe", which is derived from the Japanese poetry collection "wanyeji", becoming the first year's number derived from ancient Japanese books in Japanese history. However, there is an inseparable relationship between Wan Ye Ji and Chinese classical culture. So what's the special significance of this year's title? What are the sources of Linghe?

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said at a press conference on the same day that 'Linghe' comes from 'early spring' in the Japanese ancient book "Wanye Ji". I hope that every Japanese can blossom like a plum blossom blooming in the spring and have a bright future.

Abe also said that Japan's long history, rich culture and beautiful nature in all seasons represent its national character and should unswervingly hand over this national dignity to the next generation. It is hoped that the people will nurture culture in their beautiful hearts. Because of this wish, the title of the year was finally chosen as Linghe, which symbolizes the coming of a new era. Since then, Linghe has become the 248 th year in history since the first year of Dahua was launched in 645. It is also the first year from an ancient Japanese book.

Specifically, "Linghe" comes from the preface of 32 songs of plum blossom in the fifth volume of the collection of ten thousand leaves, "early spring & lsquo; Ling & rsquo; moon, Qi and Shu Feng & lsquo; and & rsquo;, the powder in front of the mirror of plum blossom, and the fragrance after LAN smoked and Pei.". Among the 247 year names before Linghe, all the ones that can be identified are from ancient Chinese books.

Wanyeji is the oldest existing Japanese Waka collection, which contains more than 4500 poems, and its status is equivalent to the book of songs of China. Although it is regarded as an ancient Japanese book, wanyeji still can't erase the influence from Chinese classical culture. According to the public data, wanyeji draws lessons from the theme, form and expression of Chinese poetry and collects some Chinese poetry. It is worth mentioning that when Wan Ye Ji was finished, Japan did not have its own characters, and all the poems were written with Chinese characters as phonetic symbols.

Takashi Kato, a Japanese professor at the Changjiang School of Journalism and communication at Shantou University and a former member of Yomiuri Shimbun editorial board, told the global times that the original part of the song of plum blossoms, Volume 5 of wanyeji, was written in ancient Chinese. Moreover, wanyeji contains 118 poems about plum blossom, which can be seen to be influenced by Chinese aesthetics. However, 'he' stands for 'He Feng', so Kato believes that 'Ling He' means the integration of China and Japan.

Japan's current Emperor Akihito will abdicate before he dies on April 30, and Crown Prince Naruhito will ascend to the throne on May 1. The new year's number, Linghe, will be officially launched at 0:00 on that day. Since then, the Pingcheng era, which began in January 1989, has only one month to go.
