Although the names of Toona sinensis and Ailanthus altissima are almost the same, and their leaves are similar, they are all feathery compound leaves with a Chinese character. Don't think that they have any genetic relationship. In fact, they are a little different. They are plants of different families, and their names are very different in ancient times: Toona is Ailanthus altissima, Ailanthus altissima is Ailanthus altissima. Can you tell the difference between Toona sinensis and Ailanthus altissima?
It is also known as toon bud, toon pile head, big red toon tree, toon sky and so on. It is also called spring seedling in Anhui Province. The root has two layers of bark, also known as Toona bark, originated in China, widely distributed in the north and south of the Yangtze River, for Meliaceae. Deciduous tree, dioecious, with even pinnate compound leaves, panicle, bisexual flowers, white, oval capsule and winged seeds. The seeds can reproduce. The tree is tall and tall, which is not only edible for toon sprouts, but also the preferred tree species for landscaping. In ancient times, Chinese toon was called toon, and Ailanthus altissima was called ailanthus. Chinese people have a long history of eating Chinese toon, and it spread all over the country in the Han Dynasty. Toon bud is rich in nutrition and has the function of food therapy. It is mainly used for exogenous wind cold, rheumatic arthralgia, stomachache, dysentery and so on.
Ailanthus altissima is a deciduous tree with gray to grayish black bark. It was originally named Ailanthus altissima (CH ū), also known as Ailanthus altissima and Mulong tree. It is named after the odor emanating from the gland points at the base of leaves. It is native to Northeast China, central China and Taiwan. It grows in temperate regions. The trees grow rapidly and can reach a height of 15 meters in 25 years. The life span of this species is short, and it rarely survives for more than 50 years.
This species grows well in limestone area. It can be used as afforestation tree, landscape tree and street tree in limestone area. The wood is yellow and white, which can be used to make farm tools and vehicles; the leaves can be used to feed Chinese toon silkworm (Tianchan); the bark, root bark and fruit can be used as medicine, which is equivalent to clearing heat and dampness, astringent and dysentery; the oil content of seeds is 35%. This species propagates spontaneously in many cities of North America, Europe and Asia and becomes a 'weedy tree'.
The difference of medicinal value is as follows
Toona sinensis is a plant of Meliaceae. It has strong fragrance. Toona sinensis bud is nutritious and edible. It can treat exogenous wind cold, rheumatic arthralgia, stomachache, dysentery, etc.
Ailanthus altissima is a plant belonging to Ailanthus of bitter wood family. Its bark, root bark and fruit have medicinal value after being crushed. It has the effect of clearing away heat and dampness, astringency and dysentery.
The shape is different
In morphology, there are many differences in details, but there are three obvious differences
1. The leaves of Toona sinensis are even pinnate compound leaves with even number of leaflets;
The leaves of Ailanthus altissima are odd pinnate compound leaves with odd number of leaflets and glands.
2. Both inflorescences are panicles, but their colors are different. The flowers of Toona sinensis are white;
The flower of Ailanthus altissima is light green.
3. On the fruit, the fruit of Toona sinensis is a narrow oval capsule, dark brown, with small and pale lenticels. The base of the seed is usually blunt, with long membranous wings at the upper end and no wings at the lower end;
The fruit of Ailanthus altissima is a long oval winged fruit with flat round seeds in the middle of the wings
