The trees grow rapidly and can reach a height of 15 meters in 25 years. The life span of this species is short, and it rarely survives for more than 50 years.

This species grows well in limestone area. It can be used as afforestation tree, landscape tree and street tree in limestone area. The wood is yellow and white, which can be used to make farm tools and vehicles; the leaves can be used to feed Chinese toon silkworm (Tianchan); the bark, root bark and fruit can be used as medicine, which is equivalent to clearing heat and dampness, astringent and dysentery; the oil content of seeds is 35%. The leaves of Ailanthus altissima are odd pinnate compound leaves with odd number of leaflets and glands.

2. Both inflorescences are panicles, but their colors are different. The flowers of Toona sinensis are white;

The flower of Ailanthus altissima is light green.
