What is consumer rights day

March 15 of every year is the 'World Consumer Rights Day', which was established by the international consumer Union in 1983. The purpose is to expand the publicity of consumer rights protection, so as to attract worldwide attention, promote cooperation and exchanges between national and regional consumer organizations, and better protect consumers' rights and interests internationally.

The development of International Consumer Rights Day

In 898, the world's first consumer organization was established in the United States. In 1936, the national consumer alliance was established. After the Second World War, various organizations reflecting the interests and demands of consumers appeared one after another in some developed countries.

On this basis, in 1960, the international consumer union was founded. Since then, the consumer movement has become more active. In many developing countries, some consumer organizations have been established, making the consumer movement a global social phenomenon. There are more than 300 consumer organizations in more than 90 countries in the world.

On March 15, 1962, Kennedy published a special presidential consultation paper on consumer protection in the U.S. Congress, which first proposed four rights of famous consumers, namely, the right to consume safely, the right to be informed of basic facts when consuming, the right to choose and the right to appeal. With the development of consumer rights protection, the four rights proposed by Kennedy and the other four rights determined by the International Consumer Association, namely, the right to meet basic needs, the right to settle disputes fairly, the right to master the basic knowledge of consumption and the right to live and work in a healthy environment, have become the eight criteria for consumer rights protection all over the world.

In 1983, the International Consumer Association designated March 15 as international consumer rights day. Since then, on March 15 every year, consumers and relevant organizations around the world have held various activities to promote the further development of the consumer protection movement.

On April 9, 1985, the general assembly of the United Nations unanimously adopted the guidelines for the protection of consumers, urging all countries to take practical measures to safeguard the interests of consumers.

On December 26, 1984, the China Consumer Association was established and joined the International Consumer Association in 1987. On March 15, 1991, the editors and directors of the Ministry of economic affairs of CCTV launched a live broadcast of the "3.15" International Consumer Rights Day special evening of friends of consumers. On January 30, 2010, the Ministry of economy of CCTV launched the official Sina microblog for the 315 party.

She added: 'consumer organizations in every country should be included in the worldwide struggle for the protection of consumers' rights. "When this kind of struggle continues every day, we choose one day every year, so that all parties can hear our voice for consumers, and get the spiritual motivation to work hard for the future tasks. The main contents include:

(1) provide information to consumers, educate them, and improve their awareness and ability of safeguarding their own rights and interests

(2) handle consumer complaints and help consumers recover their losses
