How to put Thangka? Detailed introduction of Thangka placement

Thangka refers to the religious scroll painting mounted with colorful satin and hung for worship. It is a unique painting art form in Tibetan culture. The subject matter involves Tibetan history, politics, culture, social life and many other fields. Most Thangka handed down are Tibetan Buddhism and religious works. So how can Thangka be placed better? Thangka should be placed in detail.

1. About the placement of Thangka. All kinds of Thangka are not suitable to be placed in bedrooms, kitchens and bathrooms under the condition of light. Because Kaiguang is blessed, that is to say, thangka is equal to Buddha and Bodhisattva. Out of respect, they are not suitable for the above places. Tangka of Mandala type is suitable to be placed in the porch, which can better play the role of guarding against evil and praying for blessings. The Thangka of Buddha is suitable to be placed in the living room, study and other places. It's easy to worship.

2. About the mounting of Thangka. There are two kinds of mounting of Thangka: Tibetan mounting and Han mounting. Tibetan mounting is similar to the scroll mounting in traditional Chinese painting. It sews the Thangka and cloth together, and takes the wooden strip as two axes. If you choose this method, it is recommended that you do not remove the Thangka and mount it in other styles later. Because if it is removed, pinholes will be left around Thangka. Han style mounting is the same as decorative painting. It uses cardboard (usually more than two layers) to separate the gap between Thangka and glass, and is installed in a wooden frame. It should be noted that when you choose wooden frame, it is recommended that you choose the material with good quality, so as to avoid the influence of wood frame transformation on Thangka. As far as I know, Tibetan mounting is not available in the mainland. It needs to be mounted in the Tibetan area. Generally speaking, Tibetan mounting is suitable for the north, because the weather in the north is dry, and the humidity in the air in the south is relatively high, which is unfavorable for the long-term preservation of Thangka. Therefore, we invite our friends in the north to choose the mounting method according to their own preferences, while our friends in the south to choose the Chinese mounting method.

3. About the cleaning of Thangka. Because thangka is made of ore powder with glue, thangka is afraid of water. When cleaning the Thangka, it is recommended that you use soft dry towel and wipe the Thangka lightly. Once a month for Tibetan mounted Thangka, once a year for Han mounted Thangka. It is not necessary to clean it every day.
