Is the Lantern Festival off

Lantern Festival is not a legal holiday, so it is not a holiday. Legal holidays refer to the rest time for celebration and vacation which is uniformly stipulated by national laws according to the customs or commemorative requirements of various countries and nationalities.

Lantern Festival, also known as Shangyuan Festival, xiaozhengyue Festival, Yuanxi festival or Lantern Festival, is the first important festival after the Spring Festival. It is also one of the traditional festivals in China and overseas Chinese. The first month is the first month of the lunar calendar. The ancients called the night "night". Therefore, the first full moon of the year, the 15th day of the first month, is called the Lantern Festival.

In ancient Chinese customs, Shangyuan Festival (Tianguan Festival, Yuanxiao Festival), Zhongyuan Festival (diguan Festival, Yulan basin Festival) and Xiayuan Festival (Shuiguan Festival) are called Sanyuan. The Lantern Festival began in the Han Dynasty more than 2000 years ago. When Emperor Wen of the Han Dynasty ordered the 15th day of the first month to be the Lantern Festival. During the reign of Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty, the sacrificial activity of "Taiyi God" was set on the 15th day of the first month (Taiyi: the God that dominates all the universe). When Sima Qian founded the "Taichu calendar", he had identified the Lantern Festival as a major festival.

Through the above explanation, we can know that although the Lantern Festival is a traditional festival in China, it is not a statutory Festival stipulated by the state, so it can not be a holiday.
