IELTS score is the arithmetic average of all individual scores in IELTS test. The highest single score is 9 and the lowest is 0. Therefore, the final scores of candidates will be all rounded or half. If the average score is less than 0.25, it will be rounded to the whole score; if the average score is greater than or equal to 0.25 and less than 0.75, it will be rounded to the half score; if the average score is greater than or equal to 0.75, it will be rounded to the next whole score.

For a simple example, this student has 6.5 listening, 6.5 reading, 5.5 writing and 6 speaking with a total score of 24.5. So the average score is 6.125. So the final IELTS score of this student is 6.

To sum up, IELTS 6 is a relatively basic IELTS score. If the students' requirements are higher, it is difficult for them to increase their IELTS 6 score to IELTS 7 score. It is suggested that students can participate in IELTS related training courses.
