What are the causes of dog hair loss? Why do dogs shed hair easily

The process of raising a pet dog is also very depressing. Sometimes it's easy for a dog to shed hair. Do you know why? What's the reason for a dog to shed hair? Let's find out.

There are many reasons for dog hair loss, such as too much salt involved in diet, dog skin disease, hair change caused by seasonal changes, and dog hair change and malnutrition in the growing process, which may cause excessive hair loss. These are the situations that parents should check when they encounter the problem of dog hair loss.

Six inspection items during hair removal:

1. Hair falling part

2. Shape of shed hair

3. Does it itch

4. What kind of feed to eat

5. Whether sterilization operation has been performed

6. Is it being treated for other diseases

If there are itching symptoms at the same time, it is easier for the owner to notice the dog's hair loss. If there is no itching, careful observation is necessary to find out. In order to find the disease in time, the dog must be combed regularly to check whether there is hair loss. The long haired dog is not easy to find the hair loss. It must be confirmed after the hair is combed. Different from the hair changing period, only part of hair loss occurs when the disease causes hair loss. When hair is shed from different parts, diseases may be different. Allergic dermatitis, hormone abnormality, bacterial dermatitis, pressure, etc. may cause hair loss.

Based on the location of hair loss, the possible diseases can be inferred:

1. Hair loss of face, leg, armpit and back: allergic dermatitis. (in severe cases, erythema may appear all over the body])

2. Hair loss from buttock to back: flea allergic dermatitis. (serious hair loss around the base of tail and waist)

3. Left and right symmetrical shedding:

(1) The cortex function of the accessory kidney is resistant to the disease (the parts outside the head and foot become symmetrical hair loss, sometimes there is pigmentation)

(2) One of hypothyroidism (hair loss symmetrically on the left and right legs)

(3) Hypothyroidism II (symmetrical hair loss in the back and abdomen)

4. Round hair loss: fungal infection (hair loss in a nearly round way, which will spread to the whole body in case of deterioration)

5. Large scale hair loss: pyoderma (skin reddening, rash, strong itching, hair loss after biting or scratching)

6. Hair loss at the periphery of buttocks, vulva and lower abdomen: hair loss caused by hormone abnormality (the hair loss part is fixed, but there will be no symmetry between left and right)

7. Hair loss around eyes and mouth: hair follicles (hair loss caused by external parasites, partial hair loss around eyes and mouth and other facial and forelegs or signs of hair loss all over the body)

8. Lick body hair: pressure (psychological problems cause hair loss, dogs will lick their legs or bite their tails under mental pressure, resulting in hair loss)

Also note:

1. Hair loss beyond the period of hair change: usually spring and autumn are the season of hair change. During the period of hair change, the whole body will lose hair, which is different from the partial hair loss caused by diseases. In spring, in order to meet the arrival of summer, the undercoat will fall. In autumn, in order to meet the coming winter, new undercoat grows intensively. Dogs living indoors are not easily affected by the outside temperature and sunshine time. They tend to shed their hair all year round. Therefore, hair loss during non hair loss period is not necessarily caused by disease.

2. Check the dog's food and nutritional status for problems, vitamin and mineral deficiency. When vitamin A, copper and zinc are insufficient, it will cause skin diseases and hair loss.

3. The use of steroids may also cause hair loss: the steroids used in the treatment of diseases may also cause hair loss if there are side effects. Once found, it must be immediately reported to the veterinarian. When the hair falls due to steroids, the dosage can be reduced gradually, and the use can be stopped at last. However, it is very dangerous at its own discretion, and it must be used according to the instructions of the veterinarian.
