1、 The cause of Tangshan earthquake:
Tangshan is located in the circum Bohai seismic belt, with frequent plate movement, and it is an earthquake prone area. At 03:42:53.8 on July 28, 1976 Beijing time, an earthquake of magnitude 7.8 on Richter scale (magnitude 7.5 on moment scale), intensity Xi and focal depth of 23 km occurred in Tangshan and Fengnan area, Hebei Province, China (118.2-deg; E, 39.6-deg; n). The earthquake lasted about 12 seconds. There are 14 provinces, cities and autonomous regions, including Beijing and Tianjin.
The energy generated by the strong earthquake is equivalent to 400 Hiroshima atomic bombs. The whole city of Tangshan was razed to the ground in an instant, and the traffic, communication, water supply and power supply of the whole city were interrupted.
