A tea supplier in secondrabad, India, has been arrested for using water from train toilets to make drinks for sale, the Guardian reported on May 3. This is another food safety issue in India after the rotten meat scandal in Calcutta.

According to the report, the tea vendor and two of his associates were photographed when they pulled a large pot of tea and coffee out of the toilet. After the video was widely shared by the media, police arrested three people involved in the case. Indian Railways said the incident had been investigated and that tea suppliers were fined 1100 pounds.

According to data released by the Indian government, food poisoning is one of the most common diseases in India. Of the major diseases reported last year, 16% were caused by food poisoning.

Recently, a series of events in India have also brought food safety issues into focus. Earlier in Calcutta, local police cracked a case of sale of carrion. Some 20 tons of rotten meat have been seized and police suspect a large amount of it has been sold to City restaurants. Meat supplier Tahari said demand for meat in restaurants fell by 50% because of the incident.
