Young girl was scratched by a dog and died of rabies virus

A 15-year-old girl who lives in Nong Khai, northeastern Thailand, was scratched by her pup a few months ago and suffered from rabies symptoms on Thursday, the world daily reported. She was declared incurable the next day, the eighth death of rabies in Thailand this year.

Pratthana SAE Tang, a third-year student at laofei padungwit school, picked up a two-month-old puppy in December last year and went home to raise it, according to the Bangkok Post. One day, he accidentally scratched his neck while playing with the dog, leaving a wound. The girl's grandparents had proposed to take her to the hospital for rabies vaccine, but the girl said it was just a scratch, it doesn't matter.

On April 19, the young girl suddenly had a high fever, general weakness, drooling and unable to control her behavior. When her relatives saw that she was suspected of rabies, they immediately took her to Nong Khai hospital for medical treatment. Unfortunately, the girl died the next day after she was hospitalized.

Somchaichote piyawatwela, director of the public health center of langkaifu, pointed out that the young girl really died of rabies, which is the eighth confirmed case of rabies in Thailand this year. He also suggested that young girls' families, relatives and friends should be vaccinated against rabies in order to avoid the recurrence of regrets.

The incubation period of rabies varies from 1 to 3 months, sometimes shorter than 7 days and longer than 1 year. Once the disease occurs, the death rate is almost 100%, but if you can get medical treatment and get rabies vaccine in time after being bitten by animals, it can effectively reduce the risk of the disease.
