Sun Zhang, a professor at the Institute of railway and urban rail transit of Tongji University, told reporters that high-speed maglev can fill the gap in China's rail transit.

At present, the highest operating speed of high-speed rail is 350 km / h, and the cruising speed of aircraft is 800-900 km / h. The 600 km / h high-speed maglev can just fill the speed gap between high-speed rail and aviation.

There is a limitation in rail transit of wheel rail system, which is called 'adhesion limit speed'. According to the calculation, the limit speed is about 350 ~ 400 km / h, and the actual running speed will be lower if the noise, vibration, mechanical wear and other factors are taken into account.

In other words, there is an upper limit to the speed of high-speed rail. High speed maglev can break through the adhesion limit speed of wheel rail transit. " Sun Zhang said that the high-speed maglev also has the technical advantages of "fast start, fast stop" and can give full play to its speed advantage. It can be used for long-distance transportation as well as medium and short-distance passenger transportation.
