Can we use tap water to raise goldfish? How to deal with fish and tap water?

For many fish lovers, is there such a question: why do they often die when they raise fish? What does this have to do with the water for fish farming? Can tap water be used for fish farming?

Can tap water raise fish

Yes, it's better to put it in a fish tank and bask in the sun for half a day. Generally, tap water is disinfected with chlorine, which can be decomposed in the sun. When changing water, it is better to keep one third of the original tank water.

Attention to fish culture with tap water

Tap water, the water for breeding tropical fish, mostly uses tap water which is easy to get. The main treatment methods of tap water are air drying and activated carbon filtration. The air drying method requires that after the tap water is put into the aquarium, the oxygen filling equipment or water quality circulating filtration equipment shall be started immediately. Generally, the fish can be safely raised after 48 hours of use.

Activated carbon filtration method is to use the physical characteristics of activated carbon to filter the chlorine and other harmful substances in the water, so that the tap water immediately becomes a non-toxic and safe water source. The filtered water is generally used for 12 hours or 24 hours, and can be used only after the water temperature and feed water are balanced, especially when it is warm in winter, pay more attention to the water temperature balance.

Treatment of fish in tap water

We all know that the water plant will put chlorine preparation into the water before supplying water, so as to kill the microorganisms in the water. In order to ensure that each user's outlet maintains a certain concentration, the amount of chlorine input is quite large. Although chlorine preparation is harmless to human beings, it has a great toxic effect on fish. Therefore, tap water cannot be used to raise fish directly and must be treated.

Here are several methods to remove residual chlorine:

1. Activated carbon filtration can be used to remove residual chlorine. (available on the market)

2. Adding appropriate amount of sodium thiosulfate (commonly known as Haibo) can quickly remove the residual chlorine. (available on the market)

3. As the residual chlorine is a volatile substance, it will volatilize slowly by itself, so it can be used for drying the next day. At the same time, adding oxygen (as we usually call aeration) and sun exposure will accelerate the volatilization of residual chlorine.

Among the three methods, aeration is the most recommended one.

Aeration can not only remove residual chlorine, but also dissolve oxygen and promote the degradation of high oxygen microorganisms to remove heavy metals: compressed air forms small bubbles in the water through pipes and air distribution equipment, floats upward through the water layer, constantly contacts with the atmosphere at a new interface, and water and air fully contact to exchange gaseous substances and remove volatile substances in the water, or make the gas escape from the water To remove chlorine, chloramines, hydrogen sulfide and other harmful gases in the water; or to make oxygen dissolve in the water to improve the dissolved oxygen concentration, so as to achieve the purpose of removing iron, manganese or promoting aerobic microorganisms to degrade organic matters.

Why can't tap water raise fish directly

The main purpose of adding chlorine to tap water is to prevent water borne diseases. However, after the tap water is disinfected with chlorine, part of the chlorine will remain in it, which is called residual chlorine. The residual chlorine has strong toxicity, so the residual chlorine of tap water must be received strictly now. For example, the allowable range of residual chlorine in China's tap water quality standard is 0.2-1.5ppm, generally lower than 1.0ppm.

Tap water is the main source of water for fish farming. If we use tap water for fish farming directly, as long as the concentration of residual chlorine is more than 0.02ppm, it may produce strong beancurd on fish mucosa, which is more than 0.1ppm, causing fatal threat to some sensitive fish. Therefore, it is quite dangerous to use tap water directly (including local water exchange).

Most of the chlorine in the water has formed other chemicals. These chlorine compounds, let alone they are called 'residual chlorine family'. If we can understand their origins, we can deal with the residual chlorine very well to ensure the health of the fish water source

There are a lot of chemical leftover substances, such as hypochlorite, in tap water after sedimentation, disinfection and bleaching. Some fish are sensitive and can't be raised with tap water. It's better to use clean river water or well water. If you want to use tap water, you need to put the tap water in the sun for two or three days to promote the oxidation and decomposition of the disinfection residues in the water. It's better that you also have a water supply inflation device to charge the air for a period of time, so as to increase the oxygen content of the water. The simplest is the kind of aeration machine that bubbles at the bottom of the water. After this treatment, ordinary goldfish can be raised.

Tap water is a kind of artificial water source, with clean water, less impurities, less bacteria and harmful substances, which can be used to feed goldfish. Now the water pollution is more serious, and I suggest that you use cold water instead. The above is the water can fish, water fish processing methods of all the content, I hope to help you.
