How to raise a turtle in winter? How to hibernate a turtle in winter

4hw.org: it's cold. For many tortoise owners, tortoises will go into hibernation soon. Yes, frogs will hibernate. Tortoises will not eat any more when it's cold. It's very important to arrange hibernation for tortoises. So how to arrange hibernation for domestic tortoises? Let's have a look!

1. Constant temperature

The temperature can't drop too fast, or even the most hardy turtle may die because it can't withstand the upheaval. Generally, the hibernation temperature of tortoise is suitable at 1-10 ℃. If the temperature fluctuates continuously, it will easily cause physical consumption of tortoise. The ambient temperature during hibernation should not be lower than 5 & deg; C, otherwise it will die of excessive freezing. To keep the room temperature within a certain range, do not fluctuate too much.

2. Energy storage

As the temperature drops, many turtles are not as active as they are in summer, and their food intake has declined. Autumn is the season for turtles to save energy for winter, so they can feed more and better. Moreover, in winter, it will go into hibernation without eating or drinking. Tortoises need a lot of food before winter. If tortoises don't eat enough food, they may starve to death in winter.

3, heating

Generally, the young turtles born in that year had better be kept warm; the turtles will stop eating when the water temperature reaches about 17 degrees, and the specific situation of each turtle will be different. The weak and small turtles can be fed warm in winter, and the environment temperature can be controlled at about 25 & deg; C.

4, cold prevention

In particular, in the case of low temperature in the morning and evening, the seedlings must be well protected against cold. It's best to move them indoors for insulation.

5, clear intestines

If the tortoise wants to live a safe winter, he must have his intestines cleared. If he does not clear his intestines, his excrement will cause rectal obstruction, which will directly lead to hibernation and death. The method of clearing intestines is very simple. Stop feeding 1 week in advance, and let the intestines be discharged naturally in the sun. The constant temperature blister can be selected to increase the blood circulation of the turtle, wait for the excretion to be completed, and then gradually cool down to hibernation.

6. Check

By the end of November, the average daily temperature dropped below 15 degrees. Check whether the tortoise is healthy, and you can start to hibernate. Observe every day. If you are sick, you should treat those with rotten skin and rotten nails in time. Don't let the tortoise live through the winter with disease. In this period of time, because the temperature of formal hibernation has not been reached, the tortoise will keep crawling, which is a normal phenomenon.

In addition, the hibernating turtle should also be checked irregularly. Don't let weak or sick turtles hibernate. They don't have enough fat to use during hibernation. Of course, for some closed shell turtle species, the process of not hibernating can be fatal, and they have to hibernate.

7. Hibernation residence

When the tortoise wants to hibernate, you also need to give the tortoise a very warm and comfortable 'bed' so that the tortoise can hibernate well. The 'bed' for tortoises to hibernate well must be a container of river sand with a certain capacity. Then put some paper balls on it. It's best to cover the whole sand with a paper ball, and then you put the turtle on it, and it will go into the sand and sleep.

8. Less water

Does the tortoise need to drain water during hibernation? The answer is that it's better not to do so. There is very little water to put in. The best way is to wet the sand with water, and the tortoise will drill in by itself. Or wrap the turtle in a wet sponge. In a word, it's better not to touch the water directly. Keep a certain humidity, but don't let them drown.

Don't give turtles' fat in autumn '

Autumn is the season for turtles to save energy for winter, so they can feed more and better. But don't overdo it. Many people have the idea of "sticking autumn fat" to turtles, but it's not the case actually. Turtles are variable temperature animals and can't maintain a constant body temperature. To a large extent, it is affected by the ambient temperature, and the low ambient temperature affects the digestion and absorption of turtles.

1. Pay attention to feeding time

Since October, the temperature difference between day and night has become larger. Many people are still used to feeding after work or at night, which is very easy to cause a burden on the gut. At this stage, the best feeding time is about 10-12 o'clock in the daytime. When feeding at this time, the temperature can help turtle blood circulation and promote digestion.

2. Pay attention to feeding frequency

After October, the temperature varies across the country. When the maximum temperature is lower than 20 degrees, feeding is not recommended in the north, and you can prepare for hibernation. South turtle friends can also choose a day to feed, but even if it is feeding, a week should be controlled at about two times.

3. Pay attention to food selection

By this time, preparations for the hibernation of turtles have begun. But don't feed fish, shrimp and insects, which are hard to digest though they are supplemented. Turtles are mainly fed with a small amount of turtle food, while semi turtles are mainly fed with fruits and vegetables. What if the tortoise doesn't eat after hibernation?

Some heavy food may make tortoises start to eat. Screw meat is recommended. Shake directly in front of the tortoise with tweezers. To attract their attention will soon have an effect. In addition, we can raise the tortoise without food together with the tortoise with strong appetite. Animals have imitative behavior. If the tortoise refuses to eat, it may be eaten by other tortoises.
